History of Reseiclo

Reseiclo Community Wood Recycling was set up in 2007 as a Social Enterprise and started collecting waste wood and selling timber and wooden items from the workshop in Alderney Street in Newport, South Wales.

With help and support from the National Community Wood Recycling Project in Brighton and one contract for waste collection - Taylor Woodrow (as it was before it's merger with George Wimpey to form Taylor Wimpey) and one small truck - the business has developed steadily and now collects over 800 tonnes of wood waste per year (2017).

We still sell reclaimed timber and wooden items from our Alderney Street premises, but the shop in the historic Victorian Market Arcade has closed. The shop opened in 2013 and from there they sold some of our smaller products and took orders for the big stuff, and we hope to bring this back in the future.

Reseiclo Training Limited was set up in April 2015 in the wake of the downsizing of our local Adult Training Centre (Bryn Glas). We offer an alternative day centre in the woodworking workshop environment for adults with learning disabilities, mental health, autistic spectrum disorder and all forms of Dementia. We operate on the same facilities as Reseiclo Community Wood Recycling and give new life to the wood collected by Reseiclo by making a variety of different things out of wood, from chopping boards to fences, gates, sheds and all things in between. In 2023 we also started running classes for schools or organisations where we teach how to make things like birdboxes and hedgehog homes.

In June 2024 a change in management brought the two companies even closer together, and we are looking forward to improving our facilities to be able to store more wood, developing our teams, and establishing more community projects which help the local disadvantaged people of Newport.

Future of Reseiclo

Reseiclo is constantly growing and developing in order to save as much timber from landfill and to support and empower as many disadvantaged people as we can.

We have recently finished building a second floor in our workshop which contains 4 additional rooms - 3 rooms for engraving and CNC equipment, and a brand new video recording and editing studio, all of which will allow us to improve the variety and quality of the services we are able to provide.

We have plenty more ideas on how we are going to improve our reach and impact. The Reseiclo team is working hard behind the scenes, and we can't wait to share it with you soon!
